Futurama Season 11 is back with a new episode now streaming on Hulu, and with it has confirmed a new voice actor for Amy's father, Leo Wong. Futurama is back for a second revival following its initial cancellation on Comedy Central ten years ago, and the voice cast from the original run has returned in full for the new episodes. But while the main voice cast provided for many of the characters, there have been some changes behind the scenes for a few of the characters in the new season now streaming on Hulu as evidenced by the newest episode.

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2 has revealed the first of what could be many changes for some of the voices behind the scenes as Leo Wong (who was voiced by Billy West in both the original FOX and Comedy Central runs of the series) is now voiced by Feodor Chin (Overwatch, Uncle From Another World) as confirmed by the episode's end credits. Leo only gets a few lines in the episode itself, but there's plenty of more time for more of the Wong family as Futurama's new season continues!

What Happens in Futurama Season 11 Episode?

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2 is titled "Children of a Lesser Bog," and features the Wongs returning to the series when Kif and Amy's children were finally going to emerge from the swamp last seen during the Season 4 episode, "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch." The Wongs were excited to finally have the grandchildren that they have been asking Amy to provide since the original runs of the series, but quickly changed their tune when actually seeing the kids themselves. Going as far as distancing themselves completely.

With Kif and Amy now having a full family unit by the end of the episode, there are likely still plenty of opportunities to use Amy's parents in future episodes as they will likely need to be involved in their grandkids' lives much more than seen in this episode. With Futurama Season 11 running for ten episodes, and another ten coming after, we'll likely see even more how the new series is changing both on and off-screen.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 5 Promo Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-episode-5-watch-anime/ Tue, 01 Aug 2023 02:21:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 2a633bab-92df-4ae8-9f1c-0aa5185c6ff2

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has reached the final moments of the Gojo Past's saga, and the promo for Episode 5 of the anime is teasing the Premature Death arc that ends it all. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 kicked off with the Gojo's Past saga from Gege Akutami's original Jujutsu Kaisen manga as the anime adapted a very important mission from Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto's past in Jujutsu Tech. The end of this mission led to two of them going on the respective paths play out in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the anime's first season, and the next episode will show how it all falls apart.

Jujutsu Kaisen will be starting the Premature Death arc with Season 2's next episode, and the title of the arc reflects how both Gojo and Geto will be changing their perspectives based on what went down with Riko Amanai during their mission. It's what sparks both of their journeys, and helps to fill in some of the very important gaps that we'll see continue with the Shibuya Incident arc that will be starting after, You can check out the promo for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 5 below:

Okkotsu Yuta freed Orimoto Rika from her curse in December 2017. And now it's spring 2006. Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru, two peerless jujutsu sorcerers from Jujutsu High, have been given two missions by Tengen, an immortal known as the cornerstone of the jujutsu community."

The synopsis continues with, "One mission is the escorting and erasure of the 'Star Plasma Vessel', Amanai Riko, the girl chosen as the best match to merge with Tengen. But when a bolt of lightning strikes Baba's homemade embalming fluid and one of Annie's tears magically brings Trophy back from the dead, Trophy finds herself a resurrected woman with a second chance at unplanned parenthood and a variety of powers."
  • Review: After introducing a dystopian future Florida in the first season, Teenage Euthanasia's shown fans a wild take on a mother and daughter dynamic as a faulted mother gets a second chance to be closer to her teenage daughter after taking her life and being brought back to life.

Bleach Leaves Bambietta On Surprisingly Chilling Cliffhanger https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-tybw-bambietta-gigi-episode-17-cliffhanger/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 22:59:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 157cbf86-12e4-476d-b2bf-595a04538e1d

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation has left the Quincy Bambietta Basterbine on a surprisingly chilling cliffhanger despite her being a major villain out to destroy Soul Society! The newest episodes of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War airing this Summer have kicked off a new slate of battles between the Soul Reapers and the Sternritter forces, and the Soul Reapers have been able to clench some major victories. But each win comes with its own consequences, and it's been made clear with the newest episode that there are major consequences for those on both sides of the fight.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War's newest episode saw Sajin Komamura facing off against Bambietta once more in a rematch following their initial confrontation in the first part, and it ultimately ended with Komamura's victory. But while it was revealed that this had cost Sajin a great deal in exchange for the boost of power necessary to defeat the Sternritter, the cliffhanger that Bambietta was left on made it seem like she was going to suffer a much more chilling fate as a result of how their fight went down:

Bleach: What Happens to Bambietta?

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation Episode 17 sees Sajin sacrifice the last elements of his humanity for a final boost of power that would allow him to fully defeat Bambietta. Despite the villain using her most powerful ability, Sajin defeated her completely and she was left in the wake of his powerful attack. But as Sajin was facing his own downfall as a result of the fight, it was clear that Bambietta was not going to make it out of this unscathed and even allowed to die on her own terms in the loss.

As Bambietta was laying there suffering over the fact she was the first one out of her group to lose the fight and slowly die, the rest of her group shows up above her as Giselle Gewelle notes that they would be lonely without her. It's unclear what she means by this, but Bambietta starts to cry out and plead with Gigi not to do something as Gigi ominously walks up to her as the episode cuts away.

So it seems like this is far from the end from the quick fan favorite, but it's definitely a chilling final look for now. What did you think of Bambietta's time in Bleach's new anime? Here's How Futurama Finally Addresses Leela and Kif's Wildest Unresolved Plot https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-11-leela-kif-pregnant-amy-kids/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 22:30:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b371771d-45fe-40ee-a2de-dff70bbe0190

Futurama Season 11 has continued with new episodes in its run on Hulu, and the second episode of the reboot season has finally addressed an unresolved plot between Leela and Kif that has been hanging for over 20 years! One of the big promises made by Futurama's newest season was that it was finally going to revisit the tadpoles that Kif had given birth to back in the Season 4 episode, "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch." With the final tease of that episode revealing that some of the kids had taken on Leela's traits, there has always been a question as to how it would all work out.

Futurama finally returned to this plot with the newest episode of the series as Kif and Amy's kids were finally revealed in full 20 years after their tadpoles were first introduced to the series. With the full reveal of these kids also comes a resolution to the fact that Leela (and hilariously, Scruffy) was also involved in their birth, and Futurama hits this head on as Amy comes to grips with the fact that she's not their biological mother but is the mother of Kif's children anyway.

futurama-season-11-leela-kif-pregnant-amy-kids.jpg
(Photo: Hulu)

How Futurama Settles Leela Getting Kif Pregnant

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2, "Children of a Lesser Bog," reveals that Leela somehow forgot that she had gotten Kif pregnant 20 years ago as the series once again explains that Kif's species reproduces by touching hands with their Smizmar (and Kif considered Amy the real mother despite Leela offering genetic material as Amy made his body react in that way in the first place). But with their kids fully introduced, Leela's thrown into the middle of it again as the youngest of them, Newt, keeps calling her "Mommy."

This led to Amy having a crisis over it as their children seemed to prefer Leela more, and this ends up with the Grand Midwife declaring a challenge to Amy's motherhood. Because Amy isn't their genetic parent, she was put through a special trial to keep the children. This ended up being whether or not she actually loved the kids, and because Amy does, she was ultimately declared to be their mother as the happy Kif and Amy family becomes complete as the episode comes to an end.

What did you think of the way Futurama brought this Kif and Leela story full circle with Amy after all these years? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

My Adventures with Superman Producer Reveals Show Faced "No Interference" From James Gunn and DC Studios https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-adventures-with-superman-james-gunn-dc-studios-no-interference/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 21:59:00 +0000 Nick Valdez cbc93146-25ac-4969-80d6-d8533c851bb1

My Adventures with Superman has been introducing fans to a brand new take on Superman and the world around him, and the Adult Swim animated series has been revealed to have faced "no interference" from James Gunn or Peter Safran's new DC Studios according to the producer behind the show! Gunn and Safran are now leading a new universe full of efforts with DC Studios that will unite its live-action and animated efforts under a single universe with certain "Elseworlds" projects also existing outside of the main canon. This had fans wondering about some of the new animated projects we're starting to see play out now.

My Adventures with Superman is showcasing an anime inspired take on Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen, and producer behind the series Jake Wyatt explained (as reported by The Direct) that the show's ordered two seasons had been in the works before DC Studios was formed and ultimately the new regime has been "very supportive" with "no interference" show for the new anime inspired series and "a lot of approval" over what had been shown to them thus far.

my-adventures-with-superman-season-2-creator-confirmed.jpg
(Photo: Adult Swim)

How My Adventures with Superman Exists Under DC Studios

"We started well before any of that took place when we were still with AT&T [previous owners of WarnerMedia]. I've been pleased that the new regime has been very supportive," Wyatt explained to The Direct. "They showed James [Gunn] the opening main titles and he really liked it. So we've been allowed to do our two seasons with no interference and a lot of approval." Wyatt then continued with revealing how the idea for My Adventures with Superman came about during WarnerMedia's time with AT&T.

"I've loved Superman my whole life. We came to making the show out of a conversation Brendan [Clogher, executive producer] and I had while directing at Nickelodeon about superhero fatigue," Wyatt continued. "Who do we still care about with all these movies and properties and newly minted superheroes every day? Superman was still great, and we realized we loved him for the same reasons. We loved the Clark and Lois romance, the awkward Clark Kent, the hope and the optimism, and almost that cringe earnestness of Superman."

So it seems that while Gunn and Safran are united the DC Studios animated efforts with the live-action ones, My Adventures with Superman impressed them so much that its production continued without interference. But what are you thinking of My Adventures with Superman so far? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Praises Geto vs. Toji Fight in Season 2's Newest Episode https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-geto-toji-fight-creator-praise/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 21:29:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 4f9278c3-f914-4c8f-88b5-9b3f8e609731

Jujutsu Kaisen has reached the end of the Hidden Inventory arc with the newest episode of Season 2, and the original creator behind the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has shared their praise for Suguru Geto and Toji Fushiguro's fight in Episode 4! The Hidden Inventory arc from Gege Akutami's original Jujutsu Kaisen manga tackles a very important missions from Geto and Satoru Gojo's past together at Jujutsu Tech, and fans of the anime saw just how bloody of a mission it turned into once Toji got involved in full and started making his move on the young duo and Riko Amanai.

After making his move to take out Gojo and surprisingly kill Riko before the end of the previous episode, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4 saw Toji fully fight against Geto as the two of them were the only ones left standing at the time. It's this fight that was fleshed out further from how it was in the manga, and Jujutsu Kaisen series creator Gege Akutami actually shared some comments of praise for how this fight turned out in the anime. You can check it out below (as translated by @soukatsu_ on Twitter):

What Jujutsu Kaisen's Creator Thinks About JJK Season 2 Episode 4

"They somehow expanded the direction and settings of the battle based on my half-ass feedback where I was like 'For the fight inside the Tombs of the Star Corridor, as long as it doesn't make it to the root of the tree, it should be fine!!' Amazing!!," Akutami began when talking up the fight. Mentioning further that, "I somehow get the feeling that the staff really like Rainbow Dragon..." due to the Cursed Spirit's use in the episode, and highlighting Geto using a finger gun with, "Geto somehow learned cooler ways to use his technique compared to in the manga."

Akutami then went on to praise the animation and full production for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4 overall too with, "I'm not actually that knowledgeable yet so I tend to talk more about directing style or key animation, but there are many processes and roles involved in animation, like photography, backgrounds, sound, and many more processes done by a ton of people working very hard!! So thaaaank you to everyone!!"

What did you think of Geto and Toji's fight in Jujutsu Kaisen's newest episode? How have you liked the Hidden Inventory arc overall? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! Aliens vs Predator Anime Director Breaks Silence on Shelved Show https://comicbook.com/anime/news/alien-vs-predator-anime-director-info/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 21:11:00 +0000 Megan Peters 91675d8a-548d-4646-95dc-49418b6b177f

Earlier this year, anime fans were presented with a truly wild story. A report surfaced that an anime based on Aliens vs Predator was lurking in limbo, and it didn't take long before the news was confirmed. Shinji Aramaki admitted the reports were true as he directed the unreleased Aliens vs Predator series, and now the creator is breaking their silence on the mysterious project.

The update was shared this weekend at Otakon as Aramaki hosted a panel at the event. It was there he showed screenshots and designs from the Aliens vs Predator anime. The art dates back to 2015, and fans were treated to the show's working title Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation.

During his appearance at Otakon, Aramaki told fans the anime series consisted of 10 episodes the last he knew. As for its story, the Aliens vs Predator anime took place on a massive ship used for immigration. Various predator factions were involved with the show's plot, and the aliens we first met under director Ridley Scott played a major role. But when it comes to specifics, Aramaki said he would refrain from spilling the beans should the Aliens vs Predator anime ever see the light of day.

As you can imagine, anime and movie buffs are most definitely eager for this shelved series to drop. Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation would have been spearheaded in some way by 21st Century Fox as the production company oversaw the crossover IP. In 2019, Disney acquired most of the IPs under 21st Century Fox, so we can only hope Mickey Mouse is still sitting on this adaptation. So if The Walt Disney Company wants to spotlight Disney+, it would be smart to release this adaptation ASAP.

As for Aramaki, he is keeping busy with work in Japan. Currently, he and collaborator Hideki Kakinuma are working on a series titled Genesis Breaker. From Ultraman to Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Aramaki has worked on a ton of top-tier projects. Hopefully, Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation will join the list soon...!

What do you think about this Alien vs Predator anime? Should the project be released or...? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Futurama Finally Reveals Kif and Amy's Kids https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-11-kif-amy-kids-axl-mandy-newt/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 20:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 490d42a4-904c-4b05-9603-80397a71e1f3

Futurama Season 11 has returned to Hulu with a new episode, and it has finally followed up on a 20 year old episode with the full reveal of Kif and Amy's kids after all these years! One of the big promises that Futurama made heading into its second major reboot with Hulu was the fact that they would be using some of these episodes to follow up on unresolved plots left hanging by the original runs of the series. This has already come to pass with the second episode of the new season as it brings back Kif and Amy's tadpoles last seen in Season 4.

Kif and Amy gave birth to tadpoles during the Season 4 episode, "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch," and now 20 years later, Futurama has shifted their status quo by bringing back these tadpoles back into the series in full. After finding a hilarious way to pare down the potential thousands of babies, they ended up with three children at different ages (due to where they spent time in the swamp) with Axl the oldest, Mandy the middle child, and Newt the youngest. Check out Kif and Amy's kids below:

Futurama: Who Are Kif and Amy's Children?

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2, "Children of a Lesser Bog," ends the 20 year wait that Kif had teased Amy about during Season 4 in which each of the tadpoles had grown arms and legs and made their way back to land. They end up with three children as a result, and each of them ended up growing at different rates due to the temperature of the water where they spent most of their time in the swamp. Although Leela was technically the one who provided the genetic material, Amy is the official Smizmar.

This ends up playing a role in the main conflict for the episode as Amy was challenged over her role as their mother, but thankfully the episode comes to an end with Kif and Amy cementing their new family dynamic in place. Now it's just a matter of seeing how Futurama uses these three new characters moving forward in future episodes of the series much like how the other kids in the series have been used so far.

How do you feel about Kif and Amy's children in Futurama's newest episode? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Blue Lock Announces New Football Club Collab https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-lock-anime-football-inter-milan/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 20:27:00 +0000 Megan Peters 6d0f50a1-c727-425f-94ea-a76c2d1e2919

Blue Lock brought its first season to life last year, and it has put soccer on the map. The sport series has experienced a huge bump in the past year, and the latest FIFA World Cup put Yoichi Isagi on the map. In fact, the anime's rise has even reeled in a number of professional collabs, and now Blue Lock has found another football team to work with.

The update comes courtesy of Kodansha as the publisher confirmed Blue Lock's new pro partner. It seems Inter Milan is now working with the Blue Lock team on special collabs. This deal is the second Blue Lock has struck as the series teamed up with Liverpool FC last year. This original partnership has been expanded according to new reports, so Blue Lock is still bringing in lots of good publicity for football squads.

And of course, that bump is hardly surprising. Blue Lock may be a sports anime, but the genre is pretty huge. Released in 2018, Blue Lock has nearly 30 million copies in circulation, and the anime is faring just as well. In fact, studio Eight Bit has announced Blue Lock season 2 is already in the works, and a movie is on the way with supervision by creators Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura.

If you have not watched Blue Lock, you should know the show is easy to binge right now. All of season 1 is streaming on Crunchyroll. As for the manga, Blue Lock can be read on the K Manga app outside of Japan. So for more details on the thrilling sports series, you can read Blue Lock's official synopsis below:

"After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan's team struggles to regroup. But what's missing? An absolute ace striker. Demon Slayer Singer LiSA Announces Collab With K-pop Group Stray Kids https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-anime-stray-kids-kpop/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 19:51:00 +0000 Megan Peters 5201dc8f-651a-478a-b01c-84449f9ec21d

If you love Demon Slayer, then there is no doubt you know LiSA. The artist is one of the biggest in Japan, and their work on Demon Slayer's first theme song earned them global praise. To this day, "Gurenge" is one of the best anime anthems out there, and LiSA has tons of other hits under her belt. And soon, the Japanese idol will add another to that list with help from South Korea's own Stray Kids.

Yes, that is right! LiSA is creating a single in collaboration with Stray Kids. On September 6th, the two acts will team up to release the single "Social Path", so fans of K-pop and J-pop are eager to hear the blend.

After all, LiSA and Stray Kids have formidable talent on their own. As mentioned, LiSA has been in the headlines since 2005 for their musical talent. LiSA began their career with the band Chucky before moving on to solo work. In 2010, LiSA earned fame as she wrote songs for Angel Beats as part of a duo. And in recent years, LiSA has enjoyed record sales as one of Japan's most prominent singers.

As for Stray Kids, the boy group was founded in 2017 at JYP Entertainment. The group, which features eight members, is one of the top-performing K-pop groups with international fans. With a number of songs having hit the Billboard 200, Stray Kids has sold more than 10 million albums to date and has sold out a number of world tours. So when it comes to international collaborators, LiSA could not have done better.

If you have not heard of LiSA's work on Demon Slayer, you just have to watch the intro to the anime's first season. You can watch the anime on a number of streaming services like Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Hulu. So for more details on Demon Slayer, you can read its official synopsis below:

"In Taisho-era Japan, kindhearted Tanjiro Kamado makes a living selling charcoal. But his peaceful life is shattered when a demon slaughters his entire family. His little sister Nezuko is the only survivor, but she has been transformed into a demon herself! Tanjiro sets out on a dangerous journey to find a way to return his sister to normal and destroy the demon who ruined his life."

What do you think about this LiSA x Stray Kids crossover? Do you want to see more K-pop acts team with J-pop stars? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Ad Features a JoJo Reference https://comicbook.com/anime/news/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-jojos-bizarre-adventure/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 19:17:00 +0000 Megan Peters e54a32ff-e673-4fde-ba8e-586058ce1341

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is ready to make a comeback, and trust us - you have never seen the half-shell heroes look so good. This weekend will bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem to theaters, and all eyes are on its four stars. For anime fans, their attention is on Donatello as the geeky turtle has already shown his love for anime in past promos, and a new blip is now putting JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on the spot.

As you can see below, a new ad was dropped for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and it is there fans can spot our heroes at school while in disguise. Donatello is rocking a purple hoodie as that is his signature color, but it isn't boring by any means. After all, it is rocking the logo for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure across its front.

So there you have it. Donatello has a thing for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Brb, we are going to get an anime recommendation from the teenage turtle!

It is hard to tell from a distance, but this nod to JoJo is easy to make once you compare this hoodie to the anime's logo. There are some color variations here, but Donatello is most definitely rocking a hoodie with the classic JoJo logo on it. The only question left for fans now is which of the JoJos is Donatello's favorite...

With this anime nod in mind, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has solidified its place in the otaku fandom. From a Jujutsu Kaisen nod to an Attack on Titan soundtrack reference, this animated movie has it all. So if you want to know more about the film, you can check out the synopsis for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem below before it debuts on August 2nd:

"After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers. Their new friend, April O'Neil, helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them."

What do you think about this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nod? Did you expect JoJo to pop up in this feature? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Constantly at WAR with one another, the use of experimental weaponry causes the Bakugan to be inadvertently transported to EARTH. Baku-balls rain down from the sky like meteors and crash into cities, forests, and oceans. And when the balls unroll, humans meet the 10 FEET TALL Bakugan for the very first time. Thankfully, humanity welcomes these displaced creatures, embraces their culture, and particularly falls in love with their long-standing tradition of BRAWLING. Spy Kids: Armageddon First Look and Release Date Revealed https://comicbook.com/movies/news/spy-kids-armageddon-first-look-and-release-date-revealed/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 17:00:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame cc8f2ff8-9d8a-4486-a5f8-0db1d3419d67 spy-kids.jpg

Netflix has released a first look at Spy Kids: Armageddon, the reboot of the beloved franchise from filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and stars Zachary Levi (Shazam!) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin). The series, which debuted in 2001 with a film directed by Rodriguez and starring Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara. The premise was that a pair of kids take over for their spy parents, after the parents are out of the picture and the kids figure out that someone needs to step forward and save the day.

The film comes from Spyglass Entertainment, producers of the Scream reboot who have not just a sequel to that movie coming, but also a Hellraiser reboot coming to Hulu next year. Rodriguez, who alternates between family fare like Spy Kids and Sharkboy and Lava Girl and adult entertainment like Sin City and El Mariachi, is bringing the project to Netflix.

You can see the announcement video below.

Netflix is working with Rodriguez on this after the success of We Can Be Heroes, a follow-up to Sharkboy and Lava Girl. That project has become a huge hit for the streaming giant since its release in 2001. The original series had four installments before Rodriguez moved to Netflix, where they had an animated series before rebooting now. Last year, Rodriguez revealed he had cast Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Gina Rodrigues (Jane he Virgin) as the main kids' parents.

"My most rabid fanbase all these years, by far, has been my kid films. My Spy Kids audience," Rodriguez previously shared at Cinema-Con. "These kids watch those movies over and over because they're action films made for children and families, in particular at a time when they need empowerment. Netflix came to me [for We Can Be Heroes] because the Spy Kids movies had done just so well on their service. They said 'Could you make a series of films that do that?' And I said, 'I'd love to!'"

spy-kids-netflix-reboot.jpg

The original Spy Kids film was released over 20 years ago, and surprised moviegoers by earning $112 million at the domestic box office. The movie starred Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa PenaVega, Daryl Sabara, Alan Cumming, Tony Shalhoub, Teri Hatcher, Cheech Marin, and Danny Trejo. In fact, it was Spy Kids that launched Rodriguez's hyper-violent Machete films, which saw Trejo reprising his Spy Kids character in a much different way.

Spy Kids: Armageddon is set to hit Netflix on September 22.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Creator Reveals the Clint Eastwood Souvenier He Kept https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jojos-bizarre-adventure-creator-clint-eastwood/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 15:46:00 +0000 Megan Peters 084e0c19-f159-4fcb-8fdd-a6b392db02c3

Just because you are famous doesn't mean you're impervious to being starstruck. From A-list actors to chart-topping singers, no one is immune to the reality of being starstruck. This goes for manga creators as well because even the most popular artists can fall prey. The man behind JoJo's Bizarre Adventure discovered this when he met Clint Eastwood, and Hirohiko Araki marked the big occasion by bringing home an... odd souvenir.

The whole story resurfaced recently as a translated interview with Araki hit social media this week. It was there the creator spoke about his introduction to Eastwood. It was there the artist gushed about the Hollywood icon, and Araki said he even took home a snack Eastwood munched on as a sort of souvenir.

"Of course, I was [nervous]," the creator of JoJo shared. "He was eating this huge cookie while we were talking, and then he left about half of it behind. I took it home as a souvenir."

Clearly, Araki lived the dream when he got the chance to meet Eastwood. As for how the two men came together, well - it is an interesting story. It turns out Araki met Clintwood at an event the year JoJo turned 25. The pair were photographed talking to one another as the night went on, so Araki got to experience what it was like to meet Hollywood royalty. And as for Eastwood, he met one of Japan's most famous artists of all time.

After all, Araki's reputation knows few bounds. The creator has been working hard on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for decades now, and the manga is far from done. Not long ago, the franchise went live with a new entry when part nine, The JOJOLands, dropped. Araki is putting out new chapters of The JOJOLands each month, and the series is a bonafide hit so far. And if it ever features a character who looks similar to Eastwood, we recommend you just go along with the homage!

If you are not caught up with JoJo, you have a lot to catch up on. Of course, you can start reading the JoJo manga where it starts with part one. The series is available on digital, so for more info on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, you can read its official synopsis now:

"Young Jonathan Joestar's life is forever changed when he meets his new adopted brother, Dio. For some reason, Dio has a smoldering grudge against him and derives pleasure from seeing him suffer. But every man has his limits, as Dio finds out. This is the beginning of a long and hateful relationship!"

What do you think about Araki's meet and greet? Is there anyone you'd fanboy over like this...? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Magic: The Gathering Reveals New Anime Cards https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/mtg-anime-cards-magic-the-gathering-cards-spoilers-aggravated-assault/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 15:10:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 9fa07418-c7e2-4603-ae0e-0cdec27c98db

Magic: The Gathering is bringing anime-style artwork to cards in its next expansion set, Wilds of Eldraine. Set for release in September, WIlds of Eldraine returns to the plane of Eldraine, the world in Magic's Multiverse inspired by fairytales and Arthurian legend introduced in the 2019 Throne of Eldraine expansion. The new set will come with a bonus sheet of Magic cards with the theme "Enchanting Tales," reprinting some of the best-loved enchantment cards in Magic: The Gathering's history, including Necropotence and Greater Auramancy. There are 63 Enchanting Tales cards to collect, and 20 of them come with borderless Booster Fun treatments featuring anime-style artwork from Japanese artists.

Magic: The Gathering has unveiled six of those borderless anime cards: Doubling Season (art by Kemonomichi), Greater Auramancy (art by Mai Okuma), Smothering Tithe (art by Daisuke Tasuma), Rhystic Study (art by Fuzichoco), Necropotence (art by Kuregure), and Aggravated Assault (art by Zizero). You can see all six cards below.

Where to find Magic: The Gathering's anime cards

Magic: The Gathering will reveal the 14 remaining Enchanting Tales anime cards during the Wilds of Eldraine preview season, which begins on August 15th. The anime cards will take up the same slot in boosters as other Enchanting Tales cards, and Japanese Wilds of Eldraine boosters will come with Japanese-language versions of the cards. All other boosters have English text on the cards.

Wilds of Eldraine Collector Boosters will offer confetti foil versions of the borderless anime Enchanted Tales cards. As the name suggests, the confetti foil cards have a confetti-like foil treatment like the one seen on the borderless anime Rhystic Study seen below.

What is Wilds of Eldraine?

Wilds of Eldraine is a set designed from the top down that returns to the plane of fairy tales, knights, and witches. Wizards of the Coast promises that WIlds of Eldraine will go beyond the faeries, giants, and other creatures seen in the original Eldraine set, Throne of Eldraine. Storywise, Wilds of Eldraine is also the first new Magic: The Gathering set since the Phyrexian Invasion of the Multiverse. Magic's heroic planeswalkers foiled Elesh Norn's plans, yet the effects of her efforts still resonate on planes throughout the Multiverse. That includes Eldraine and those consequences will be seen in changes to returning characters and the new corners of Eldraine discover in this second trip.

Wilds of Eldraine preview season kicks off on August 15th. Wilds of Eldraine prerelease events occur from September 1st through September 7th. The Wilds of Eldraine set launches on September 8th. Wilds of Eldraine is available to preorder now via Amazon and local game stores.

Gundam Addresses LGBTQ Retcon With Controversial Apology https://comicbook.com/anime/news/gundam-anime-lgbtq-romance-censor/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 15:01:00 +0000 Megan Peters 5c01d591-0afb-4b5b-9ec2-efd2c710fa91

Mobile Suit Gundam has a long history, and one of its recent entries has the fandom buzzing in a big way. Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is the most recent mainline series to tackle the franchise if you didn't know. Its colorful leads and surprising storylines caught the eyes of fans in just a few episodes. These boons combined with The Witch From Mercury's LGBTQ themes left audiences eager for more. But now, Gundam is under fire for reneging an important bit of LGBTQ rhetoric.

The whole thing began this week when Gundam Ace, a monthly magazine dedicated to the franchise, posted an update. In its latest issue, the magazine holds an interview with the lead actors of The Witch From Mercury, and it was there Kana Ichinose (Suletta) said the following:

"In the epilogue, the scene where Miorine puts her head on Suletta's shoulder is so good. 3 years have passed, I could feel that the space between the two of them had become more intimate, seeing a married couple in that form, once again my heart was touched."

Of course, this confession is hardly surprising as The Witch From Mercury never shied away from Suletta's relationship with Miorine. The pair were betrothed at the start of the anime, and while Gundam didn't make romance its focus in The Witch From Mercury, Suletta x Miorine spoke for itself. Their relationship was a fundamental part of The Witch From Mercury, so fans were upset when Gundam Ace updated its contents this month to snip all talk of the girls being married.

Now, Bandai Namco is apologizing for the whole ordeal but not because of the censorship after fact. No, the publisher is sorry the content was published to begin with. Gundam Ace and Bandai Namco said the magazine's latest issue "contained statements of speculation from magazine editors". Bandai Manco's own statement went on to read, "As the work publisher, we would like to leave the anime watchers to understand the story in each of their own ways, and leave the rights of interpretations to the watchers."

Editorial mistakes happen all the time, but given how prevalent LGBTQ themes are in The Witch From Mercury, this censorship isn't sitting well with fans. Suletta and Miorine are undeniable members of the LGBTQ community, and The Witch From Mercury proves that with ease. So if the executives at Bandai Namco want to complain, well - they can go on ahead.

What do you think about this latest Gundam headline? Are you surprised by the anime's retcon or...? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

New PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie Poster Released https://comicbook.com/movies/news/new-paw-patrol-the-mighty-movie-poster-released/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 13:54:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame d6f020f3-d0f5-4dc7-900e-1f6bbd24be9a

Paramount has released a new poster for PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. A sequel to 2021's hit PAW Patrol: The Movie, the film is based on the massively successful animated series at Nickelodeon (even if it seems to be set in an entirely different continuity than the show itself). The movie, coming to theaters and Paramount+ this fall, will give a big-budget adaptation to the "Mighty Pups" sub-series, in which the PAW Patrol get super powers after coming in contact with a magical meteor. For those only casually familiar with the PAW Patrol series, there are a number of such sub-series, including stories where the pups interact with living dinosaurs, go on spy missions, or work undersea. What's arguably the most interesting part of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is that the "Mighty Pups" stories started with a TV movie (later released on DVD), titled just PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups.

Based on the official synopsis for the new movie, it sounds like PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie will retell the story of the Mighty Pups movie, this time including Marsai Martin's Liberty in the story. That character, introduced for 2021's PAW Patrol: The Movie, was not part of the original TV movie (which came out in 2018).

In the original Mighty Pups movie, Mayor Humdinger worked with his nephew Harold to steal the "mighty meteor," giving them powers. In the movie, it doesn't appear Harold is anywhere to be seen. Instead, Humdinger teams up with Victoria Vance, a mad scientist voiced by Taraji P. Henson.

While the first teaser poster featured a shadowy look at the pups in their hero forms, the new one features each of their faces around a stylized meteor logo, with their Mighty Pups vehicles featured below. You can see it here.

paw-patrol-mighty-movie-poster.jpg

While the movie will introduce a new villain named Victoria Vance, the synopsis also promises that "Humdinger breaks out of jail," suggesting that in the world of the movie, the series' main antagonist has been in custody following his first shenanigans in Adventure City.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups' archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it's too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is in theaters on September 29.

One Piece Director Teases Luffy's Big Gear Fifth Episode https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-episode-1071-gear-5-luffy-director-tease/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 03:49:00 +0000 Nick Valdez c51be367-45df-4060-b6b9-525420d2aa4f

One Piece is finally gearing up to full introduce Gear 5 Luffy into the anime with the next episode of the series, and the director behind the anime is teasing Gear 5 Luffy and the work that went into making the highly anticipated form come to life! With the final moments of the Wano Country arc drawing closer in the latest episode, Toei Animation officially announced during One Piece Day 2023 that the One Piece anime would be fully debuted the fan favorite Gear 5 form for Luffy in the first week of August as the anime enters a new era.

One Piece Episode 1071 will officially be ushering in Luffy's Gear Fifth form to the anime, and fans have been wondering how this form would play out in the anime considering just how much it changes the series overall. Speaking about Gear 5 Luffy's anime debut in a special video message released during One Piece Day 2023 weekend, One Piece director Tatsuya Nagamine revealed that the team behind it all set out to do it just like how it is in Eiichiro Oda's original manga before their ideas were broadened to a whole new level.

One Piece Director Hypes Gear 5 Luffy's Debut

Nagamine began hyping Gear 5 Luffy in the anime with, "We tried to do it just like in the manga...But, our dream started to broaden. The animators were all very enthusiastic about it. I'm really thankful about it." Continuing further, Nagamine was delighted in how many people from around the world actually worked on the episode, "Anyway, many people gathered from around the world to work on Gear 5. Four different languages were used in one meeting. Everyone loves One Piece so much."

As for how Gear 5 Luffy will sound, Nagamine hyped voice star Mayumi Tanaka's performance too, "There is this part about 'Liberation,' and it's kind of like breaking free from the laws and physics of the world. So, our goal is to push boundaries with groundbreaking voice acting." Even noting that Tanaka exceeded their expectations despite the director questioning the difficulty of such a transformation, "I thought it would be difficult to do the laughing parts, so I tried to cut down on the laughter a little. But Ms. Mayumi Tanaka went above and beyond and gave us an amazing Gear 5 laugh. And the final result exceeded out expectations."

Bleach Post-Credits Scene Teases Ichigo's New Power https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-tybw-episode-17-post-credits-scene-ichigo-power/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 03:05:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 49ad7253-bc21-44be-bd3e-690584c3a507

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is gearing up for the next phase of the fights between the Soul Reapers and the Sternritter, and the post-credits scene from the newest episode of the anime is setting up Ichigo Kurosaki's godly new level of power! Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation has been showcasing how each of the Sternritter are a lot tougher than they seemed the first time around due to no longer holding back on account of Yhwach's orders. But all the while, Ichigo and a few others have been training with the members of Squad Zero in the Soul King's region.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 1 ended with Ichigo unlocking a new Zanpakuto and beginning a new slate of training with the members of Squad Zero, but the latest update seen in the post-credits scene from the anime's newest episode is teasing that Ichigo's reaching an even greater level of power than expected. It also might be kind of dangerous as he's getting filled with a ton of power that his body might struggle to handle. Check out the post-credits scene from Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 17:

Bleach: TYBW Episode 17 Post-Credits Scene Explained

In the post-credits scene for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 17, Ichigo is seen walking down a spiritual pressure filled walkway like he had been in the previous post-credits scene. It was teased that he was forming an ominous connection with the Soul King as he started to see flashes of the Soul King's past, present, and potential future, but the new post-credits scene gives more context as it's been revealed that his body is actually being filled with the Soul King's power directly.

Ichibe Hyosube of Squad Zero explains that the weight Ichigo feels in the walkway is the weight of "everything [he's] trying to protect." The power of the king is now flowing through his body, and it's a question as to whether Ichigo is a vessel as Ichibe also notes that he's concerned whether or not his body can withstand how much it's taking in. But now it remains to be seen where this training leads as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War continues.

How are you feeling about these updates on Ichigo's training so far? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Jujutsu Kaisen has reached the climax of the Hidden Inventory arc from Gege Akutami's original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2's newest episode has taken things to the next level by nailing Satoru Gojo's most iconic scene from the flashback arc! Jujutsu Kaisen kicked off the anime's second season by taking on the Gojo's Past saga, which showcased a very important mission that Gojo and Suguru Geto took on during their time at Jujutsu Tech and sent them on the respective paths we see play out over Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the first season of the TV anime.

The previous Jujutsu Kaisen episode showcased the major turning point of the Hidden Inventory arc as Toji Fushiguro revealed just how dangerous he truly was as he was able to take down Gojo and basically kill him. But as fans know well enough by now, Gojo re-appeared and got back into the thick of the action in the newest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen and became the god mode wielding curse wielder that fans know in the anime today. Check out the big moment below as highlighted by @goatgumi on Twitter:

How Does Gojo Change in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 4 sees Fushiguro fighting against Geto shortly after "killing" Gojo, only to find that Gojo revived shortly after the mission came to an end. He explains that due to being on the verge of death he was finally able to figure out how to heal himself with the Reverse Curse technique, but that wasn't all as it seemed like the full scope of his Six Eyes technique also began to unlock as well. He was able to full his Hollow Purple for the first time (after failing to conjure Red before), and became more like the Gojo we know in the present.

Gojo becomes a much different kind of person as he sees so much around him, it's like he elevates above the human realm as well. He instantly takes out Fushiguro in the moments after his reintroduction, and nearly kills a room full of people afterwards when retrieving Riko Amanai's body. Noting that he wouldn't feel anything when doing so, it's this version of Gojo that's ultimately the most chilling of all. Now it's just a matter of seeing how that plays into the current day.

What did you think of Gojo's big moment in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2's newest episode? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Oshi no Ko Cosplay Sparkles With Akane https://comicbook.com/anime/news/oshi-no-ko-akane-kurokawa-anime-cosplay/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 00:22:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 582a6c5a-8221-4a7f-a1a2-596dc577a252

Oshi no Ko took over the anime world when it premiered its debut anime season last Spring, and now one awesome cosplay is helping to highlight one of the anime's big arcs with Akane Kurokawa! Oshi no Ko took on the darker sides of the entertainment industry in Japan, and started out with one of the more shocking premieres of the year overall. But as the anime continued through its first season, these darker stories only continued as fans were introduced to more characters with their own complicated pasts and mentalities as well. Each one ended up taking fans by surprise by how far these stories had gone.

Akane was introduced to the anime as one of the many young cast members who had joined a reality show, only to be bullied to the point where she wanted to take her own life. This mirrored some real life events in Japan that unfortunately did not end up like in the anime's take as Akane has only become a stronger actress as a result. It's this transformation after her trauma that brought her to a new idol like level, and artist @seracoss on Instagram has brought this Akane to life with next level cosplay! Check it out:

Where to Watch Oshi no Ko

The Oshi no Ko anime has officially ended its first season with 11 episodes airing this Spring, but it proved to be such a hit that a second season of the anime has already been announced to be in the works. A release window or date has yet to be set for Oshi no Ko Season 2 as of this writing, but that means you can catch up with everything that happened in the anime so far as the anime is now streaming exclusively on HIDIVE. As for what to expect from the anime's story, HIDIVE teases Oshi no Ko as such:

"When a pregnant young starlet appears in Dr. Gorou Amemiya's countryside medical clinic, he takes it upon himself to safely (and secretly) deliver Ai Hoshino's child. But on the eve of her delivery, he is slain by Ai's deluded stalker -- and subsequently reborn as Ai's child, Aquamarine Hoshino! The dark underbelly of the entertainment industry threatens to dull the shine of his favorite star. Can he help his new mother rise to the top? And what will he do when disaster strikes? Based on the seinen drama manga series by Aka Akasaka and serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump."

What did you think of Akane's arc in Oshi no Ko's anime? How did you like the first season of the anime overall? Let us know all of your thoughts about it and everything Oshi no Ko in the comments!

Cartoon Network Studios is going through some big changes this year as the studio building shuts down this Summer, but it's far from the end of the brand as there are still plenty of new projects coming through the pipeline. That's on top of the classic library of shows that are now more popular than ever before.

Adult Swim will be launching a special new block called "Checkered Past" later this August that will feature some classics from Cartoon Network's library, but why wait when you can start checking out some of the biggest classics right now. Many of them are available for streaming, so now's the time to check out some of the biggest Cartoon Network shows to ever hit.

The Powerpuff Girls

  • Info: "The Powerpuff Girls centers on three sugar-coated superheroes, whose missions in life alternate between going to school, fighting crime, winning at hopscotch and saving the world before bedtime. The girls are frequently called upon by the town's childlike and naive mayor to help fight nearby criminals using their powers."
  • Review: With a second major reboot (with the original creator in tow) now in the works, it's time to go back and see why this is still one of the most notable action animated series to ever come from Cartoon Network. Tons of goofs, big and bloody fights, and all sorts of cute fun, you should check out The Powerpuff Girls when possible.
  • Where to Watch: You can now stream The Powerpuff Girls on Hulu, Netflix, and Max.

Ed, Edd n Eddy

  • Info: "Ed, Edd n Eddy tells the story of three best friends, who band together to tackle life's most daunting challenge. Though they have the same first name and live on the same cul-de-sac in the suburbs, the three youths have very different personalities."
  • Review: Ed, Edd n Eddy is a cartoon unlike any other. Not only is it a series notable for breaking its own boundary and having the three Eds figure out that they're in a cartoon in the first place, but it openly talks about more hilarious subjects such as scamming, trickery, and much more. It's just a fun cul de sac full of adventures with three very hilarious boys.
  • Where to Watch: You can now stream Ed, Edd n Eddy on Amazon Prime Video and Max.

Dexter's Laboratory

  • Info: "For Dexter, every day is an experiment in mayhem. But a true hero always masterminds his way out of trouble! This season he concocts a plan to give Dee Dee a better brain, she turns him from a quiet creator to a mad destroyer, and Mandark tries to win Dee Dee's love while plotting to take over Dexter's beloved lab. Just a day in the life of a not so average third grade grader!"
  • Review: Dexter's Laboratory is also one of those Cartoon Network shows that you can't help but think of when mentioning the network overall. It's got such a prestige that series creator Genndy Tartakovsky is still making new animated hits with Cartoon Network to this day. Tons of fun references, plenty of cool action, and just packed with jokes in every episode.
  • Where to Watch: You can now stream Dexter's Laboratory on Amazon Prime Video.

Courage the Cowardly Dog

  • Info: "Courage the Cowardly Dog follows a frightened, pink beagle dog that lives with a married elderly pair of farmers in the Middle of Nowhere. The trio is thrown into bizarre misadventures, often involving the paranormal and supernatural.
  • Review: Courage the Cowardly Dog was a certain generation's first introduction to the world of horror as it blended its cartoonish humor and wacky situations with the paranormal to create an experience unlike any other. It's in fact held up very well to this day as there has still yet to be another Cartoon Network show that's creeped out fans on this level since.
  • Where to Watch: You can now find Courage the Cowardly Dog streaming on Max.

The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy

  • Info: "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is about two young kids, happy-go-lucky Billy and cynical, deapan Mandy, who became best friends with the Grim Reaper after winning an otherworldly limbo contest against the messenger of Death."
  • Review: Speaking of spooky, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy takes this to a whole new level. But rather than use its creepier elements to provide genuine scares, this show instead finds the goofier side of each of its elements to tell wacky jokes and play out even wackier situations. It's got such a wild dynamic with its main trio that fans of any Cartoon Network classic should check them out in action.
  • Where to Watch: You can now find The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy streaming on Max.

Futurama Producer Teases "Bigger" Episodes for New Hulu Season https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-new-season-bigger-episodes-hulu/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 22:00:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 73fe8365-2efc-40d4-a04d-d04431cf03df

One of the executive producers behind Futurama's new reboot on Hulu is teasing that the new seasons will have "bigger, more ambitious" episodes than fans have ever seen from the reboot series before! Futurama has made an unlikely comeback with Hulu as it has been revived for a second major time after its previous cancellation with Comedy Central ten long years ago. The first episode of this new run addressed how Futurama was going to be approaching its new slate of episodes on Hulu, and it seems that the team behind this new take is ready to take things in an even bigger direction going forward.

Futurama executive producer Claudia Katz (who returns from the previous runs of the animated series) spoke with SFX Magazine (as highlighted by The Direct) opened up how these new episodes on Hulu will differ from the previous runs of the series and teased that they will be "bigger" and that fans will be pleased with how it all plays out, "But really, the challenges are episode-based. There's much bigger, more ambitious episodes in these new batches. There's not a lot of everybody sitting around the conference room table. I'm hoping fans will be really, really pleased with that."

new-futurama-hulu-fry-bender-leela-zoidberg.jpg
(Photo: Hulu)

How Futurama Season 11 Will Be Different

As Katz explained to SFX Magazine, these more ambitious episodes are a necessary route for Futurama Season 11 to take as there are still many out there who might not have realized that Futurama has returned for new episodes, "Some are not aware the show is coming back, and when we say that we're doing new episodes, they're like, 'What? Oh my god! That's awesome.'" Katz continued. "We'll see what happens and if we can break Hulu in the best possible way." This all ties into the fact that Futurama's new seasons are also promising to fulfill long held plotlines from the old run.

One of the big teases leading into Futurama Season 11 was the fact it was going to fill in some gaps from the original series that fans still had questions about ten years later, and it seems like Hulu is already making good on that promise sooner into the new Futurama season than later. Especially if it's "bigger, more ambitious" than it was ever before.

What are you hoping to see from Futurama's new episodes on Hulu? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Jujutsu Kaisen Gives Fans a Look Through Gojo's Six Eyes https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-manga-gojo-six-eyes/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 21:16:00 +0000 Megan Peters c874a86a-2ca4-446d-949a-43c8441843d3

Jujutsu Kaisen has made it clear that Gojo Satoru is on another level. The sorcerer is incredibly strong, and when push comes to shove, there are no jujutsu wielders who can stand beside him. Right now, Sukuna is set on demolishing Gojo's reputation by ending his life in battle. And now that Jujutsu Kaisen has its new chapter out, we have been shown a special look at Gojo's most powerful weapon.

Yes, we are talking about Gojo's Six Eyes. The inherited power is incredibly rare, and Gojo has wielded it with care since he was young. Many have wondered what it would be like seeing with Six Eyes, and now we have our answer.

As you can see above, the most recent Jujutsu Kaisen chapter is live, and it continues Gojo vs Sukuna. The sorcerers are not holding back against one another as this feud is a life-or-death one. At one point this week, we see Gojo evaluate Sukuna using Six Eyes, and we're shown the scene through his POV.

When using Six Eyes, it seems Gojo's eyesight is actually a bit blurry, but you can make out large figures for the most part. What is the most interesting is its foreground spots. In this week's chapter, Gojo sees two orbs of light while looking at Sukuna. These dots represent the curse's soul and Megumi's soul. So thanks to Gojo and his Six Eyes, we know Sukuna has not merged with Megumi entirely.

This was not the case with Gojo's last Six Eyes analysis. If you remember, we saw some of Gojo's POV during the Shibuya Incident arc. When Gojo came across Geto, he saw something was wrong with his former friend's soul, but it was one entity. Kenjaku had taken over Geto entirely since the other way dead, but Sukuna hasn't had the same luck with Megumi. So as the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga continues, we can only hope our heroes can separate the pair.

If you are not caught up with Jujutsu Kaisen, you can read the manga with ease right now. The entire series is up to date on the Shonen Jump app. So for more details, you can read the official synopsis of Jujutsu Kaisen below:

"For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

One Piece has been preparing for the climax of the Wano Country arc for its latest string of episodes, and now things are starting in full as the promo for One Piece Episode 1071 teases Gear 5 Luffy's highly anticipated debut in the anime! Toei Animation officially announced earlier this month during One Piece Day 2023 that Gear 5 Luffy would indeed be making the jump from the pages of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga into the anime adaptation later this August, and now after much waiting, this form is officially coming to the anime with the next episode.

With the latest episode of the One Piece anime kicking off shortly after Luffy was defeated by Kaido on the roof of Onigashima's Skull Dome, Nami and the others around the island refused to give up and accept that Luffy had been defeated in such a way. Their cries ended up reaching Luffy by the end of the episode, however, as his heart starts beating in a strange way and a smoke begins to cover his body. Now with the promo for One Piece Episode 1071, this was confirmed to be the start of Luffy's big transformation into Gear 5. Check it out below:

How to Watch One Piece Episode 1071

One Piece Episode 1071 is titled "Luffy's Peak - Attained! Gear Five" and the promo for the episode teases it as such, "An amusing heartbeat unleashed! Both his allies and enemies got involved and are astounded. Is that free and flexible power a ridiculous thing or a token of freedom?! Fortune comes in by a merry gate...of Nika. Here comes the Warrior of Liberation who transcends all imagination!" Just as previously announced by Toei Animation, Gear 5 Luffy will make his debut with Episode 1071 airing on August 6th in Japan.

One Piece Episode 1071 will also be introducing a new ending theme (the first new ending theme sequence in 17 years of the anime) to help kick off the next era of the anime following this explosive debut. Viral Akira Remaster Sparks Outrage After Bringing in AI https://comicbook.com/anime/news/akira-anime-remaster-ai/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 20:43:00 +0000 Megan Peters 8e5a21e8-d178-4214-a9c2-577f0a9f48d4

Few things live up to their hype, but there are always exceptions. In the world of anime, Akira ranks as this truth's shining example as the classic film ages better by the day. The Katsuhiro Otomo movie is renowned as one of the best sci-fi films in history, and its animation has inspired millions. So of course, debate was going to crop up when one fan decided to give Akira a remaster with the help of AI.

The whole thing came to light when Erica Groza took to Instagram to share a piece of AI-derived work they put together at home. They took Akira and used Adobe's Beta AI to reimagine how the anime flick looked on screen. Specifically, they wanted to give Akira better formatting for vertical screens, so they plugged footage from Akira into Adobe's emerging software.

"Using Adobe's Beta AI, I was able to extend the 16X9 backgrounds to a full-vertical shot. Complete in the art style of the original background paintings. Then I recomposed the scenes and edited them as an additional video layer. Why is this a big deal? Because this not a blurry-out-of-focus photo, it's a distinct style which the AI was able to replicate after lots of tinkering and error," Groza shared.

"This is why real artists will learn to love AI. ... Brands, productions, and animation studios often just crop into a horizontal image to make a vertical format - which cuts out part of the action and often reduces image quality. For artists, it means, that they can augment their style and scale their work. It's a win for the creative individual who wants to do more with their own hands."

As you can imagine, some tech heads were eager to see how this AI worked, but plenty more weren't pleased by the revision. The unofficial remaster toys with the intentional layout and composition that Otomo approved when creating Akira. Over on social media, this little clip has now reignited the war between AI and anime as the industry's wariness looms large. With dismal conditions at work, anime creators are rightfully worried about how AI might overtake the industry, and tests like this are leaving a bad taste in their mouths.

If you have never seen Akira to spot the difference in this clip, you can always find the film in stores or on Digital HD. For more details on Otomo's classic flick, you can read its official synopsis below: "In the future, Shotaro Kaneda and his motorcycle gang tear through Neo Tokyo, a city divided by growing tensions. But when caught in an accident, Kaneda's friend Tetsuo Shima discovers a secret government project and receives psychic abilities beyond his control."

What do you think about this Akira debate? Is there any future where AI and animation can coexist? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

That is why Toga can be seen here with Ochaco, and the whole drawing has fans in tears.

After all, the carefree sketch features our two favorite girls in their prime. To the left, we can see Toga in her usual school uniform, and she has a gorgeous smile on her face. For once, the villain does not appear to be weighed down by grudges or grief. It is a beautiful look, and it proves Toga's smile is as cute as Ochaco believes.

As for our heroine, Ochaco is donning her usual suit, and she has one hand locked with Toga's own. The two girls look peaceful here which is a far cry from anything we've seen in the My Hero Academia manga as of late. In fact, the story's final act has been busy with all-out war, and Toga vs Ochaco was a rather bloody showdown. It was brought to an end last week with a devastating loss, and thanks to this new art, My Hero Academia fans are crying anew over it.

If you are not caught up with the My Hero Academia manga, you can read the up-to-date series on the Shonen Jump app. For more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny..."

Kakegurui: "Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you're the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it's not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It's reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrolls, she's gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!"

  • Reason to Watch: What do you get when you mix Mean Girls with the thrill of Las Vegas gambling? Well, you get a school-based show called Kakegurui. The cutthroat series will leave fans reeling with its high stakes, and for amateur gamblers, you might learn a thing or two about blackjack along the way!

Mob Psycho 100: "What's his secret to busting ghosts while keeping prices low? Well, first, he's a fraud, and second, he pays the guy who's got the real psychic power--his student assistant Shigeo--less than minimum wage. Shigeo is an awkward but kind boy whose urge to help others and get along with them is bound up with the mental safety locks he's placed on his own emotions. Reigen knows he needs to exploit Shigeo to stay in business, yet for better or worse he's also his mentor and counselor. And he also knows whenever the normally repressed kid's emotions reach level 100, it may unleash more psychic energy than either of them can handle!"

  • Reason to Watch: After coming to a close this year, Mob Psycho 100 will go down as one of the best anime series to tackle supernatural phenomena. The simple shonen has the perfect blend of awkward adolescence, real-world stakes, and internal uncertainty. To top it off, Mob Psycho 100 features some truly impressive animation, and its heartfelt hero will leave audiences hooked from start to finish.

Netflix's One Piece Star Admits They Made Sanji's Fights Their Business https://comicbook.com/anime/news/netflix-one-piece-sanji-martial-arts/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 18:46:00 +0000 Megan Peters de84252c-2d69-4083-a3f1-6202b4919de3

Netflix is gearing up for one of its most ambitious premieres to date. If you did not know, the studio has been hard at work on One Piece under the close eye of series creator Eiichiro Oda. With a carefully cast team, One Piece is set to bring the Straw Hat crew to life this fall, and now the star behind Sanji is speaking out about his stunt work on the show.

During an interview with Square Mile before the SAG-AFTRA stoke, Taz Skylar said he got into Sanji's role with gusto. If a fight scene was going down on set for Sanji, Skylar would do his best to shape up for the camera.

"Every single fight is mine. I made it my business," Skylar shared. "My official stunt double Stewey was so proud of me. He always said if you're able to do them, they're yours."

Of course, Skylar did not come into One Piece with Sanji's kicks. A number of videos surfaced on social media after Skylar's casting was revealed. It showed the star training for Sanji's fights, and Skylar says he read every comment on those videos to fuel himself. By the time filming began, Skylar was knee-deep in Sanji's world, and he made every meal and fight his business on set.

"We had a kitchen on set, so on my lunch breaks I'd get into Sanji's chef costume and I'd cook. We'd try to do high-end spins on basic dishes from the anime," he shared.

Of course, Skylar's dedication to One Piece is just one of the many things fans love about the show's cast. It is no secret that live-action anime is hard to nail, but Skylar and his co-stars are eager to break the mold. So if you want to see how One Piece fares in the real world, Netflix's live-action series is set to debut this August. In the meantime, you can watch the One Piece anime on Netflix to prepare for Luffy's big journey. You can learn more about Oda's hit series below courtesy of its official synopsis:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

No, Jujutsu Kaisen Isn't Using AI to Animate Season 2 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-animation-ai/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 17:10:00 +0000 Megan Peters 94fcd974-89bd-4387-a1c2-f25d90f29b60

It is a rite of passage at this point for anime. When a show gets popular, its army of critics double and so too do the fans who comment on all things animation. Now that Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 is live, there are plenty of fans detailing its sakuga, and one such essay has gone viral thanks to its AI claims. But to be clear, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 isn't using AI by any means to cut corners.

No, that is not the case at all. AI is being used to keep viewers from having seizures, so it is time went over what the Harding Test is if you've never been introduced.

For context, you can see the viral Jujutsu Kaisen video above as a TikTok blew up recently. It was there a fan suggests the anime is using AI tools in season 2 to cut corners with its frame rate and connectors. However, industry execs and animators were quick to debunk the video with help of the Harding Test.

"Ghosting in anime isn't AI," Samuel Deats, the director of Castlevania, shared on social media. "It's a technique used to pass the Harding Test, which is a test that determines the level of risk for epileptic seizures. Ghosting has been around since well before current generative AI technology."

For those unfamiliar with the Harding Test, it is a standard met in film and television to protect viewers with epilepsy. The test uses algorithms that analyze frame rates and dictate whether they contain problematic image sequencing. If a certain number of sequences are flagged, the media fails and is most often barred from broadcast. For anime and animation, these tests are taken very seriously given their wide demographic. So of course, Jujutsu Kaisen is subject to the Harding Test.

In order to create seamless image sequencing, companies like MAPPA Studio using ghosting. This artwork is often made digitally, using AI or not, and it fills in the gap between key scenes. By adding this buffer, animated images are sequenced smoothly and provide no resistance for the Harding Test. So there you have it! The more you know, right?

Of course, AI and animation is a definite concern within the industry. Everyone from artists to writers and beyond are worried about how the merging tech will impact anime's future. This worry has given AI a bad reputation within the anime fandom, and it is certainly right to be wary when creativity is at stake. But when it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen and this season 2 debacle, there is nothing to worry about.

If you are not caught up with Jujutsu Kaisen, you should know the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll. For more details, you can read the anime's official synopsis below:

"For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

Naruto, One Piece Actor Indicted on Assisted Suicide Charges https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-one-piece-actor-arrested-assisted-suicide/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 16:28:00 +0000 Megan Peters fe7e44b3-8fd2-4064-b940-97a8b90df64d

A new update has been given in the criminal case involving Ishikawa Ennosuke IV. The hugely popular actor has been in the headlines this summer as authorities in Japan linked the star to his parents' death. The stage actor, who was born Takahiro Kinoshi, was found at his parents' home back in May alongside their bodies. And now, Kinoshi has been arrested on charges related to assisted suicide.

According to the latest reports from Japan, Kinoshi was indicted several days ago for assisting his parents' double suicide. The case dates back to mid-May as authorities believe Kinoshi gave his parents excessive sleeping medication which led to their deaths. Not long after, Kinoshi collapsed from a similar overdose, but paramedics reached the actor before he could have passed.

Reports from Japan now suggest Kinoshi also attempted to commit suicide that night as some sort of family pact; However, his attempt was unsuccessful. The kabuki star recovered after treatment, and he was arrested on June 27 on suspicion of assisting his mother's suicide. Not long after, he was handed another arrest warrant for his father's suicide. Now, the court has given Kinoshi an official indictment.

For those unfamiliar with Kinoshi, you must not be a fan of traditional kabuki theater. Kinoshi, who is better known by his stage name Ennosuke abroad, is one of the industry's top stars. His father was a kabuki actor as well, and in recent years, Kinoshi made waves by tackling stage adaptations of popular anime including One Piece and Naruto. In 2024, Kinoshi was meant to partake in the kabuki adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, but his ongoing legal issues may halt his participation.

What do you make of this latest anime arrest? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram.

One Piece Anime Reveals First Look at Gear Fifth Luffy https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-anime-luffy-gear-5/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 15:01:00 +0000 Megan Peters 229dbac6-6672-4fe7-8d25-170f7ea4069b

One Piece has finally done it. For months and months, the entire anime fandom has been waiting for Luffy to reach the climax of his fight with Kaido. The War for Wano has been nothing short of impressive, and Luffy's bout with Kaido has been intense, to say the least. All the while, One Piece readers have been waiting on Luffy to reveal his latest form as it debuted in the manga ages ago. And at long last, One Piece has done it.

Yes, that is right. Gear Fifth is here. Luffy showed the world Gear 5 at last this week when its new episode dropped, and One Piece is now gearing up for a full reveal with episode 1071.

As you can see above, One Piece shared its very look at Gear Fifth Luffy in the anime this week. Much of his face is obscured here, but episode 1070 does give us an idea of what's to come. After all, it seems like Luffy is almost glowing here, and his hair has been majorly changed. The boy is rocking cloudy white hair, and from what we've seen of the Gear 5 transformation so far, it seems Luffy's new power is unlike any we have seen before.

Of course, One Piece fans are taking over social media now that Gear 5 has stepped into the anime. It has been quite some time since the manga welcomed the form, after all. One Piece debuted Gear Fifth Luffy in chapter 1044, and we did see the form for a brief moment in One Piece Film: Red. Now, the TV anime is ready to give the beloved form its due. It is fair to say this power overhauls everything we know about Luffy's power and his Devil Fruit. So if you are ready to learn more about Luffy's fate, stay locked on the One Piece anime!

If you are not caught up with the series, no worries! You can watch the One Piece anime on Hulu and Crunchyroll. For more details, you can read the official synopsis of One Piece below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

What do you think about this One Piece update? Do you think Luffy's new form is living up to expectations? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Rick and Morty is gearing up for a full anime spin-off series now in the works for Adult Swim, and one of the executive producers behind it confirmed how many episodes Rick and Morty: The Anime will be sticking around for! With Rick and Morty becoming one of the biggest original animated series on Adult Swim, the franchise has been experimenting with anime in the last couple of years. Some of these shorts were so successful with fans, in fact, that now one of the directors behind these shorts is taking up a full new anime series inspired by Rick and Morty.

Rick and Morty: The Anime was first announced to be in the works for Adult Swim last year, and revealed that it has been ordered for ten episodes at the time. Things have changed quite a lot in many ways over the last year, but thankfully Rick and Morty: The Anime's episode order has not. Executive producer for the series, Jason DeMarco (and Senior VP, Anime and Action Series/Longform at Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios) confirmed when asked by a fan on Twitter that Rick and Morty: The Anime will indeed be ten episodes.

Futurama Episode 2 Clip Teases Return of Major Unresolved Plot https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-11-episode-2-kif-amy-tadpoles/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 02:32:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 1ee1f35e-01b6-4235-b623-44db3313a792

Futurama is now back in action with new episodes now streaming with Hulu every week, and the sneak peek clip from Episode 2 from the newest season is teasing the return of a major unresolved plot from the original run of the series as it teases we'll see a follow up to Kif and Amy's (and Leela's) tadpoles! Futurama coming back ten years after its second cancellation was already a big enough deal on its own, but one of the biggest promises leading into the newest episodes was the fact that these new episodes would finally be picking up from lingering threads from the original run.

This included a follow up to one of the bigger ideas from the original seasons as teased by the newest sneak peek clip from Futurama Season 11's next episode. Hulu has released a new sneak peek clip for Episode 2, and it reveals that Kif and Amy will finally be following up on all of the tadpoles that Kif previously gave birth to during the Season 4 episode, "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch." This includes a return from the fan favorite Gran Midwife too. You can check out the clip below:

How to Watch Futurama Season 11 Episode 2

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2 is titled "Children of a Lesser Bog" and will begin streaming on Monday, July 31st. Hulu briefly teases the episode with, "Amy and Kif's children emerge from an alien swamp." As teased by the clip as well, we'll see the tadpoles that had headed into the swamp in that original Season 4 episode. It seems Amy has come around to the idea of having children all these years later, but there's still the major question as to whether or not Leela's involvement with it all with impact how it all plays out.

As for what Futurama has planned for Season 11 overall, Hulu teases the season as such, "After a brief ten-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The ten all-new episodes of season eleven have something for everyone." The biggest teases come thereafter. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries - including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler's litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles. Meanwhile there's a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV."

What are you hoping to see from Futurama bringing back Kif and Amy's tadpoles at last? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Jujutsu Kaisen Cosplay Breaks Hearts With Riko https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-riko-amanai-anime-cosplay/ Sun, 30 Jul 2023 00:35:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 9344882a-f2fe-4fa8-9689-b177cd5b62e4

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has reached the climax of the Gojo's Past arc, and one awesome cosplay is breaking hearts all over again by bringing Riko Amanai back to life! Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 kicked off its new episodes this Summer by taking on the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs from Gege Akutami's original Jujutsu Kaisen manga. These arcs highlighted a very distinct mission from Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto's shared pasts at Jujutsu Tech, and the results of which ended up sending them on their distinct paths we see play out in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and beyond.

This mission had introduced them to Riko, who they were supposed to protect so she could be assimilated into Tengen to keep the barriers around the world intact. But when given the choice, Riko wanted to keep living her own life. This was unfortunately cut short, and seeing her death is what send Gojo and Geto into some very distinct paths that we are going to see even more of as the anime continues. Okkotsu Yuta freed Orimoto Rika from her curse in December 2017. And now it's spring 2006. The synopsis continues with, "One mission is the escorting and erasure of the 'Star Plasma Vessel', Amanai Riko, the girl chosen as the best match to merge with Tengen. So the two of them set out on their escort mission in order to keep the jujutsu community going, but an assassin calling himself Fushiguro interferes in an attempt to assassinate the Star Plasma Vessel. Craig of the Creek

  • Info: "Co-created by three-time Emmy-nominated Steven Universe writers Matt Burnett and Ben Levin,Cartoon Network's Craig of the Creek follows the precocious Craig as he transforms everyday afternoons with his best friends J.P. and Kelsey into thrilling and comical adventures. Since its debut, the groundbreaking show has been celebrated for the trio's creative and imaginative escapades and spurred a groundswell of excitement from critics, fans across social media, and beyond. Craig of the Creek taps into an emotional sense of nostalgia that resonates with audiences."
  • Review: Craig of the Creek is now in the midst of its fifth and final season, and it's been telling one of the most compelling stories yet. Recently wrapping up the Heart of the Forest arc, Craig of the Creek has begun to tease how Craig and the other kids of the creek are growing up, growing apart, and will eventually move on with their lives as it all comes to an end.
  • Where to Watch: You can now find the first four seasons of Craig of the Creek on Hulu and the Cartoon Network website, and all five seasons now streaming on Max.

Teen Titans Go!

  • Info: "From Warner Bros. Animation, these teen titans are on the go! Right after they make a sandwich or play some video games. Wait, there's laundry to do? ("Not it!") After that, they'll definitely go fight some crime. Maybe. Don't miss the return of Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg - teen super heroes who are totally unsupervised!"
  • Review: While it might not be a Cartoon Network original, it's hard to think of Cartoon Network without Teen Titans Go! dominating much of the channel with its many episodes. But it's all for a good reason as the animated series is a lot better than what many give it credit for. There's bound to be at least one that gets your attention, and that's just scratching the surface of everything this show has to offer.
  • Where to Watch: You can find the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go! now streaming on Hulu, and all eight seasons now streaming on Max.

By some twist of fate the star falls from the sky and fuses with their box, turning it into a magical means of transportation to many worlds, from a village of talking vegetables to a land where snow sculptures come to life."
  • Review: Spinning off of the very fun We Bare Bears and taking on the childhood flashback episodes of that series, We Baby Bears takes things in a much more fantastical adventures with fantastical colors, lighter stories, and a whole heap of fun.
  • Where to Watch: You can now find We Baby Bears' two seasons streaming on Max.

Steven Universe

  • Info: "Steven Universe is about the misadventures of a boy named Steven, the ultimate "little brother" to a team of magical guardians of humanity--the Crystal Gems. Steven may not be as powerful as the Crystal Gems. Or as savvy. But that doesn't stop him from joining Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl on their magical adventures and somehow finding a way to save the day!"
  • Review: Steven Universe is likely one of the modern era's biggest releases from Cartoon Network with not only a successful original five season run, but a sequel series and movie that released after. It's still has its fans after all these years with good reason, so now's the time to see why fans are still loving it after all these times!
  • Where to Watch: You can now watch the first five seasons of the original Steven Universe series on Hulu and Max.

Demon Slayer Highlights Tanjiro's Burning Blade With New Art https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-tanjiro-burning-blade-anime-art/ Sat, 29 Jul 2023 23:00:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 9c5b9e1d-2fde-43d3-a3dd-9c6e6a0076f3

Demon Slayer is now in the works on returning with Season 4 of the anime in the near future, and Demon Slayer Season 3 is showing off one of its biggest moments by highlighting Tanjiro Kamado's burning blade attacks with some cool new art for the anime! Demon Slayer's third season tackled the Swordsmith Village Arc from Koyoharu Gotouge's original Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, and the fights picked up in scale as Tanjiro and the others had to take on two of the Upper Ranks from Muzan Kibutsuji's forces and had barely been able to escape with their lives.

Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc brought out some of Tanjiro's biggest moments yet as he fought against a member of the Upper Ranks, and this led to a new kind of blade technique that saw him wielding Nezuko's burning blood and his Hinokami Kagura techniques for greater damage. This also led to some of the coolest looking moments of Demon Slayer's third season overall, and now this moment is gracing the cover of the next Demon Slayer Season 3 Blu-ray hitting shelves in Japan. Check it out below:

How to Catch Up With the Demon Slayer Anime

Demon Slayer Season 4 has been announced to be in the works and will be adapting the Hashira Training Arc from the Demon Slayer manga. There has yet to be a release window or date set for the next season of the anime as of this writing, but it will feature a returning staff and cast from the previous anime efforts. Now is the perfect time to catch up with everything that has happened in the anime so far, and you can now find the first three seasons of the Demon Slayer TV anime and Mugen Train Arc feature film now streaming with Crunchyroll.

If you're jumping in for the first time, Crunchyroll teases the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime as such, "It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself. Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a 'demon slayer' so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family."

Futurama is now back in action with Season 11 of its run with Hulu, and Futurama is getting fans ready for the next episode with a sneak peek clip showing off the first look at Episode 2 of its new season! Futurama has returned with new episodes ten years following its previous cancellation on Comedy Central, and the first new episode of the season has already been a massive hit with fans as it addressed returning for this new reboot era. But importantly, tons of time has passed within the Futurama universe as well bringing it to 2023-24 by the end of the Futurama Season 11 premiere.

One of the big promises leading into the new episodes was that Futurama was planning to address some of the hanging plot threads from episodes that never got a proper follow up during their original run, and it seems like one is being teased with the first look at Episode 2 of the new season. Hulu has released a sneak peek clip of Futurama Season 11 Episode 2 featuring Bender making a hilarious looking new candy and it quickly leads into the real plot. You can check out the sneak peek below:

How to Watch Futurama Season 11 Episode 2

Futurama Season 11 Episode 2 is titled "Children of a Lesser Bog" and will be streaming on Monday beginning on Sun, July 31st. Hulu briefly teases the episode with, "Amy and Kif's children emerge from an alien swamp." Original creators Matt Groening and David X. Voice stars from the first two Futurama runs Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman have returned for the new episodes. Hulu teases Futurama Season 11 as a whole as such:

"After a brief ten-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. Fortnite Rumored to Get Jujutsu Kaisen Crossover https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fortnite-jujutsu-kaisen-crossover-rumor/ Sat, 29 Jul 2023 22:04:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 4d9e1e13-d77b-4b41-8192-e2e119265a4d

Fortnite's next anime crossover is supposedly going to be with Jujutsu Kaisen if recent rumors are to be believed. News of the supposed crossover developed quickly on Saturday as Fortnite insiders first teased that a big anime crossover was on the way before one leaker, BarbieharpFN, seemed to have settled the discussion by saying the collab would be with Jujutsu Kaisen. Specific characters and skins that'll be part of the crossover haven't been named yet, but the leaker appears to be gearing up for another announcement, so it shouldn't be long before we know more about the plans.

The very new BarbieharpFN Twitter account went on a tweeting spree this weekend about various insights into upcoming Fortnite events and crossovers before those teases culminated in Jujutsu Kaisen being named as the next IP crossover. The image used in BarbieharpFN's tweet about the supposed collab is from the game Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash, so that shouldn't be taken as an indication of what skins we'll get in the game.

According to the leaker, we'll see both male and female skins from Jujutsu Kaisen in Fortnite along with other cosmetic accessories like emotes, back bling, pickaxes, and probably more, but just as the skins are unknown, we don't know what the accessories will look like. Adding more than just skins is pretty common practice when it comes to collabs like this one, however, and releases are sometimes spread out over time similar to how Fortnite spaced out its Dragon Ball content, so it may be awhile before we see the full extent of this crossover. The leaker said they don't have a release date for when all this is supposed to start, but they apparently have "official" assets to be shared soon.

If this leak is correct, it'll be the latest of several anime crossovers Fortnite has gotten. Past ones include the aforementioned Dragon Ball collab with Naruto, My Hero Academia, and Attack on Titan making up the other anime crossovers. Jujutsu Kaisen was previously part of a PUBG Mobile crossover, so it's no stranger to these sorts of things either.

Bleach Creator Highlights Bambietta in New Sketch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-tybw-bambietta-tite-kubo-anime-manga-art/ Sat, 29 Jul 2023 22:02:00 +0000 Nick Valdez afee975e-8e66-4481-89b5-1f70d7137ed1

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation has kicked off the full final war between the Soul Reapers and the Quincies, and the Quincies have proven to be much tougher than they were the first time now that Yhwach has basically told them to stop holding back this time around.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has been showcasing that each of the Soul Reaper Captains have steadily gotten some kind of wins against the Quincies only to find out that each of the Quincies still has something stronger up their respective sleeves for the fight ahead. This happened with Bambietta Basterbine as while Shinji Hirako was able to get the best of her with his abilities in the previous episode, she exploded with a new power and instantly turned the tables. It's why Bleach manga creator Tite Kubo decided to highlight her and Komamura after their fight in the newest episode. Check it out below:
